Roses for a Technique Challenge!!

Happy Monday!! I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend – mine was filled with mom time and it was wonderful! Today is my day to host the Technique Lover’s Challenge at SplitCoast Stampers. In honor of Mother’s Day, or Spring, or proms, or anything that makes you think of roses really, I wanted to try a watercolor rose technique. I found a tutorial from Jenna at ScribblingGrace.com that shows how to do simple Roses with Watercolors. Though the tutorial is based on Bible journaling, this technique is perfect for cards too. She is super sweet and really walks you through the steps.

After creating my background, I pulled out my new Sweet ‘n Sassy Set called Pray Without Ceasing. I love it. It is beautiful and is chock full of lots of encouragements and reminders that even our smallest prayers are heard!

After playing around with this, here are a few tips….
– Any watercolor should work even distress inks watered down. I grabbed a cheap set of metallic water colors I got from Michaels for $5. Just remember you need a lot of more concentrated color to begin with.
– Grab a bigger piece of watercolor paper if you have it. That way you can practice a few times and just keep going on the sheet. Then you can cut it down and make a few cards with the result.
– She mentions in the tutorial that she dips her paint brush in the water between certain layers. I had a hard time managing the water flow when I did this so I recommend either skipping that step at first or making sure to tap the excess water off on the side of your jar.
– Have fun and don’t get too worked up over the process. I found that even the roses I didn’t love, didn’t look too bad after I added the leaved and sentiments were great cover ups

I can’t wait to see what you create!

Thanks for stopping by – now head over the challenge and join in 🙂 Technique Lover’s Challenge at SplitCoast Stampers

Hugs!

2022 Spring/Summer Coffee Lover’s Blog Hop

It’s Friyay!! Today is the start of the Spring/Summer Coffee Lover’s Blog Hop. This is a traditional hop with each stop offering prizes for commenting on their company blog post. Sweet’nSassy Stamps is a sponsor and the team has had some fun playing around with all of the coffee themed options in the SNSS Shop. My project is a mix of clear stamps and a sweet Cocoa Mouse digi.

First, I created some coffee stained paper with my leftover coffee – this is the first time I have tried this and it was super fun. When it was dry, I stamped the coffee beans from Special Blend all over the page. I colored them in with Polychromos pencils then added some random background texture with Texture Tiles 9. I printed out Cocoa’s Latte Digital Stamp on Neenah Solar White cardstock and colored it with Polychromos pencils and fussy cut it to top off my card. I added the sentiment from Coffee Talk [all my brown stamping used VersaClair Pinecone] and that is my card.

I hope you are inspired on the hop – have fun!!

OH YEAH, Just in case you find that you need some of the coffee themed stamps (or any other haha) Sweet ‘n Sassy is having a sale this weekend to acknowledge National Scrapbook Day. Head over to the SNSS Shop and use the code NSD2022 for 15% off regular priced items.

Song Bird – Mini Art Journal

Today I have sweet little journal page in the mini journal I made using my memorydex dies.

First, I did some fun but simple background texture with distress oxides, the leaf branch stencil, and Spotted and the “rain” from Puddle Jumpers and then I toned it down a bit with watered down white acrylic paint. I stamped one of the birds from Song Birds on top of this and colored it with my Polychromos colored pencils. They work great – easily coloring over other things! Finally I used Versa Clair Nocturne ink for the sentiment/verse.

I hope you like it and are inspired. Sometime a little canvas is just what you need to keep creative!

God is Sovereign – One set 2 ways

Today I have a couple of projects using this month’s God is Sovereign set. I also grabbed some stencils and water based inks to create my backgrounds. One is a simple-ish card and the other is a mixed media art journal page.

First the card… I used the Delightfully Delicate Stencil on water color paper, spritzed in and added brusho’s (powder water color.) I used the reverse side of the stencil on another sheet of watercolor for another look – this is that piece. I used the flower from God is Sovereign and a sentiment from Sentimental Wordfetti.

Now for the Art Journal Page. For this one, I threw a lot at it… I first ink blended with Distress Oxides (worn lipstick, mustard seed, and broken china) I sprayed it with water to blend it, I stamped over that with the Script Background Stamp. I added Spots randomly along the edges from Spotted (This is the stamp of the month) and used the Grunge Grid Stencil for added texture.

After I created the background, I built up a sentiment block using the words and the flower from God is Sovereign. I colored the flower with polychromos pencils and finished my page with some white paint splatters. I love it – this set like the other before it created by SNSS team member Deirdre Cason is just so sweet and versatile.

I hope you are inspired.

By the way… there is a sale going on right now and there is still time for you to take advantage of it – the hard part will choosing 🙂

Totally Wonderful Day – Gift Tag

Today I have a gift tag for your inspiration. I used Distress Oxides and the Grunge Grid stencil as well as the word “Happy” and the stars from the Beautiful You stamp set for background texture.

With a scrap from a previous card, I created a birthday candle. I added a sentiment from the Beautiful You set (colored in with Polychromos pencils) and some super fun textiles and that is it.

I can’t wait to add it to a wrapped gift. I think it will be the perfect touch but what do you think?

I hope you are inspired.

By the way… there is a sale going on right now for you!

SNSS Mixed Media Joy

Spring is in the air big time. My tulips are out of the ground and just minutes away from blooming! How is the weather in your area?

Today I have a “CAS” – mixed media card. Is that even possible? I had a gel print in my stash that I thought would add some background interest for my sweet pail of flowers and sentiment from the new Puddle Jumpers set from Sweet N Sassy.

I used acrylics to create the background and colored my image with Polychromos pencils. I grounded my pail with some washi tape then added more in a few spots to balance everything. I added a bright, contrasting mounting piece and that is all there is to it. I really like it but what do you think?

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you are inspired to create something today.

SplitcoastStampers Technique Challenge Layered Flap

Happy Monday Everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. We are getting a little “false Spring” here in Georgia. Today we have a high of 61 degrees and a low of 51 degrees and I am ready to plant something haha – It isn’t time though! While I wait, I will satisfy my need with some floral images on my cards:)

This is my week to host the Technique Lover’s Challenge at SplitcoastStampers. I found THIS VIDEO and thought it looked so fun. Not too hard, but still very unique. She calls it a “flip flap” card but we already have a technique with that name and it is different from this one so I am calling this a “Layered Flap Card”. I hope you have fun with this challenge. I really love the results and can’t wait to see what you think!

Here is the front of the card:

I used Distress Oxides and SNSS Texture Tiles 11 to create a little texture on the kraft (Neenah Dessert Storm) front panel. I stamped the florals from God is Good and God is Love with Simon Says Stamps Intense Black and colored them with Copics (R00, R01, R01, R05, BG10, BG11, BG15, and YG93, YG95, YG99.) I stamped the inside sentiment with Vesafine Clair Nocturne.

Here is the card as it opens up. The pattern paper that creates the “flap arm” is recycled from my 2021 calendar/planner. I loved the pattern and have been holding onto it waiting for the perfect project. This was it. I built the card around it and I love it!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you were inspired! Come on over and join the challenge at SCS this week!

SNSS Hugs and Kisses

It is time to send out Valentine’s cards!! I love to send out Valentine’s – they are less stressful than Christmas and so cheerful!! Today I have two Valentine’s cards to share using the Hugs and Kisses Stencil and the Latte Love set (with dies). They are clean and simple layouts but I think the “pop” comes from the fun backgrounds. What do you think?

PS – in the background, you are seeing some of my tiered tray decorations – chunky wooden hearts with the Hugs and Kisses Stencil used to paint on the textures, and a “stack of Valentine’s books” using Bitty Minnie Alpha.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you were inspired today!

SNSS God is Good

Today I am sharing several projects using Sweet N Sassy’s God is Good set. This set is the first set designed by team member Deidre Carson and it is from the January release and it is so, so sweet! I really love that is can be used in a variety of ways – Bible journal, greeting card, memory-dex…

For my projects, first I have a couple of memory-dex cards. I created backgrounds by ink smooshing then inking through a stencil. I inked my floral image on top of the background then colored them with Polychromos pencils. I added sentiments – which are perfect for memory-dex cards as they are straight from the Psalms and are just so beautiful. I love them but what do you think?

My next project is a card. I created an ink blended background then added a cover plate die over it for some texture. I created a panel strip with the image from God is Good and a sentiment from The Future. I colored my image with Polychromos pencils.

I so enjoyed creating with this set today! I think you will love it too!

Thanks for stopping by – I hope you were inspired!

SNSS Sweater Weather!

It is finally, really and truly sweater-weather here. Up until now, we have been more “long sleeve t-shirt weather” in Georgia. We are preparing for snow and ice this weekend and when that happens we see a run on grocery stores and people tuck in – we do NOT want to get on the roads as we are simply not prepared nor are we particularly good at it 🙂

Today I have 2 projects to share; some clean and simple cards and an art journal page using the new Sweet N Sassy Stamp stamp set… Sweater Weather ha – right?!

First, I have a couple of clean and simple cards using one of the elements from Sweater Weather and part of a sentiment from another new set called Snowy Hello – I used a stamp shape die and positioned the image and sentiment to look like a fun winter postage stamp.

My second project is an art journal page in my mini art journal. I used an embossing folder to add some texture. I added a little glitter embossing powder and some snowflake sequins for a fun touch. I colored my sweater with Polychromos pencils. I added sentiment blocks and then outlined it with a navy Stabilo water pencil. It makes me smile out loud – I love it!

I hope you were inspired by my projects today!
