Watercolor Unicorn

Today’s card uses last month’s “water color” challenge technique at Splitcoast (originally found HERE). Essentially, you add some water based ink (I used Distress Inks) to a craft mat, spritz it, and then use that to “ink up” your stamp. Best of all…you do not have to be exact about this! This technique is so addictive and fun that I have been trying it with lots of different stamps just to see if they work haha!

My card uses a bunch of left over color paper cut into strips for the background then I “water colored” the unicorn from the Be Unique set using colors similar to my scraps. I did a little bit of shading with color pencils, fussy cut it out, and adhered it to my card with foam tape. I added the sentiment from the set to finished it off. I think it is pretty cool looking but what do you think?

Thanks for stopping by – I hope you try out the technique!

Hugs,
Lyn

Art Journal – Lots of Leaves

13 Tuesday Sep 2022

Today I have a mixed media art journal page for my disc bound journal using lots of stamps, inks, and oh yeah, leaves…

I created a background on watercolor paper with distress inks and oxides and leaf dies Give Thanks and punches. then I randomly stamped texture using the Falling Leaves and Texture Tiles 1 from Sweet N Sassy Stamps. Background – check!

For the main image, First, I created me… using Girl Power 2, I stamp my hair style and added glasses and shoulders. Then I sketched out arms and hands and a body. I wanted it to look like I had just jumped in a pile of leaves and was jumping for joy so I gathered up my stamp sets with leaves – Give Thanks, Happy Scarecrow, and Fall in Love with Jesus. I stamped, colored with Copics, and cut until I had a pile of leaves worthy of any kid on a crisp autumn day! I built the pile of leaves (did I mention there are a LOT of these.) Some leaves are buried at the bottom of the pile with little exposure but I really wanted dimension so the coloring, and cutting wasn’t wasted right? (haha).

Finally, I added my sentiment from the Give Thanks set and colored it in with my Polychromos pencils. I just felt like I would be praising God for such a glorious time and I LOVE how it turned out. I hope you do too!

Have a great day and THANKS for stopping by!
Lyn

P.S. and by the way… Falling Leaves is the Stamp if the Month at SNSS this month. It is free with a $65 purchase!

Happy Monday!! I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend – mine was filled with mom time and it was wonderful! Today is my day to host the Technique Lover’s Challenge at SplitCoast Stampers. In honor of Mother’s Day, or Spring, or proms, or anything that makes you think of roses really, I wanted to try a watercolor rose technique. I found a tutorial from Jenna at ScribblingGrace.com that shows how to do simple Roses with Watercolors. Though the tutorial is based on Bible journaling, this technique is perfect for cards too. She is super sweet and really walks you through the steps.

After creating my background, I pulled out my new Sweet ‘n Sassy Set called Pray Without Ceasing. I love it. It is beautiful and is chock full of lots of encouragements and reminders that even our smallest prayers are heard!

After playing around with this, here are a few tips….
– Any watercolor should work even distress inks watered down. I grabbed a cheap set of metallic water colors I got from Michaels for $5. Just remember you need a lot of more concentrated color to begin with.
– Grab a bigger piece of watercolor paper if you have it. That way you can practice a few times and just keep going on the sheet. Then you can cut it down and make a few cards with the result.
– She mentions in the tutorial that she dips her paint brush in the water between certain layers. I had a hard time managing the water flow when I did this so I recommend either skipping that step at first or making sure to tap the excess water off on the side of your jar.
– Have fun and don’t get too worked up over the process. I found that even the roses I didn’t love, didn’t look too bad after I added the leaved and sentiments were great cover ups

I can’t wait to see what you create!

Thanks for stopping by – now head over the challenge and join in 🙂 Technique Lover’s Challenge at SplitCoast Stampers

Hugs!

God is Sovereign – One set 2 ways

28 Monday Mar 2022

Today I have a couple of projects using this month’s God is Sovereign set. I also grabbed some stencils and water based inks to create my backgrounds. One is a simple-ish card and the other is a mixed media art journal page.

First the card… I used the Delightfully Delicate Stencil on water color paper, spritzed in and added brusho’s (powder water color.) I used the reverse side of the stencil on another sheet of watercolor for another look – this is that piece. I used the flower from God is Sovereign and a sentiment from Sentimental Wordfetti.

Now for the Art Journal Page. For this one, I threw a lot at it… I first ink blended with Distress Oxides (worn lipstick, mustard seed, and broken china) I sprayed it with water to blend it, I stamped over that with the Script Background Stamp. I added Spots randomly along the edges from Spotted (This is the stamp of the month) and used the Grunge Grid Stencil for added texture.

After I created the background, I built up a sentiment block using the words and the flower from God is Sovereign. I colored the flower with polychromos pencils and finished my page with some white paint splatters. I love it – this set like the other before it created by SNSS team member Deirdre Cason is just so sweet and versatile.

I hope you are inspired.

Thanks for stopping by!

By the way… there is a sale going on right now and there is still time for you to take advantage of it – the hard part will choosing 🙂

SNSS Fall Leaves and Coffee Please

27 Friday Aug 2021

Today I am playing with two of the Sweet N Sassy August stamp sets Fall Breeze and Autumn Gnomes and the Fall Leaves Stencil. I tried a some different techniques with the stencil to give myself 3 unique backgrounds. Then I used the simple sentiments and images from my stamp sets to finish off my cards.

First up… I ran my stencil through my embossing machine. You can’t see it very well but it is slightly raised. While the stencil was still attached to my cardstock, I lightly brushed on some distess inks. I stamped on the sentiment from the Fall Breeze set and colored in the outlines of the words. Super simple but fun!

Second (and third), I did some ink blending on Bristol Smooth water color paper. I laid the stencil on top and spritzed it heavily with water with caused the ink underneath to run a bit so I lifted the stencil and laid it onto a clean piece of Bristol paper for a much lighter, subtle look. I added sentiments and small images to both of these backgrounds and they were pretty much finished.

I hope you were inspired to try out your stencils in multiple ways and see what you get – I think you will be happy with the results!

Thanks for stopping by!

Bugaboo ATG Challenge CAS Birthday

03 Saturday Jul 2021

Catch the Bug is going to two month long challenges. Today we have the first and it is an Anything Goes Challenge. I have a clean and simple birthday card for you inspiration.

I combined the sentiment and image from Stella Facebook Birthday and printed it out on lightweight watercolor paper. Then I smooshed some Distress Oxides on top to add color without having to color. It was hard not to pull out my color pencils or Copics but ultimately I love that I was able to create a fun card in a relatively short amount of time. I just had to die cut the layer and adhere them together.

What do you think?

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you were inspired! Now its your turn to try to create something clean and simple without spending a lot of time!

Hugs,
Lyn

Today’s card is a one layer card on watercolor card.

I used one of the leaf stems from the Botanical Branches set to create a curved frame for the big sentiment from My Thoughts of You. I did a little ink smooshing with Distress Oxides then I colored in the image with colored pencils for some color pop. This set is so perfect for clean and simple and awesome!

Thanks for stopping by – I hope you are inspired to create a one layer card!

SNSS Botanical Branches

25 Friday Jun 2021

Today I have a simple water color project. I stamped one of the Botanical Branches several times with various colors of Distress Ink then I “water colored in the leaves” with those same inks. I spritzed the page and let the ink bleed a bit then I pressed a paper towel to dry it some. I split the panel and inserted a sentiment strip from Be Encouraged in the middle of the pieces to make the stems look longer.

This was really simple but the results are so pretty – I love it! I hope you are inspired today!

Thanks for stopping by,
Lyn

SNSS – Scribble Flowers

(This post may include affiliate links at no cost to you.)

Today I have two different projects using an all time favorite Sweet N Sassy Stamp – Scribble Flowers.

The first project is a CAS card with some very unique pieces. I stamped the Texture Tiles 11 Background onto a piece of tissue paper with archival ink. I adhered it onto a piece of cardstock I cut it into strips with a pierced die then I inked up each piece with Distress Oxides and added it to a card base, fussy cut it, and glued it onto the card. Then I water colored the leaf from Scribble Flowers in coordinating colors. A simple Birthday greeting from Birthday Wordfetti and that is all there is to this one.

My next project is a mixed media ATC Coin. These little canvases are so much fun to work on and this little 2.5″ circle has a lot going on.

I created the background with Distress Oxides and the smooshing technique. Using Archival Inks and the Typewriter Text Background, I added a little texture. Then I Copic colored the Flower and bee from Scribble Flowers. Finally, I added a sentiment from the Faith Wordfetti Set and that is all there is to this one. I really love it!

I hope you were inspired today! Thanks for stopping by!

PS – The entire store in on sale for 15% off until the 31st if you want to grab any of these sets!

SNSS Kindness Matters!

31 Wednesday Mar 2021

Today I have a couple of cards using the Kindness Matters set. In a crazy world, it is so important to remember just how much!

My first card uses Texture Tiles 10 clouds embossed and resisted with Distress Inks. To finish it off, I added another one of those adorable chicks from Hoppy Spring. I rotated it to make it look like it was flying instead of standing. What do you think?

My second card uses Distress Oxides on kraft. Using the word “matter” from the Kindness Matters set as well as the Texture Tiles 11 and Delightfully Delicate Stencil , I created texture then added my sentiment. All those textures made for a super fun experiment.
I hope you were inspired! Thanks for stopping by!
