Today’s card for HYCCT1319 is to create a project with a scene. I thought this would be  great time to make a THANK YOU card.

I am excited about this challenge because I really don’t make “thank you” cards too often and could use more of them in my stash…they are nice to receive and I really want to get better at sending them.

Hambo Birdhouse Estate (1)

I used a sweet image from Hambo Stamps called Birdhouse Estate with one of the sentiments that comes with it “Thanks for your hospitality!” I didn’t go fussy with DP on this one, just some background paper and ribbon.

Recipe

  • Image: Birdhouse Estate – Digi (Hambo)
  • Medium: Copics
    • Colors: Sky B00, B000; Tree E70, E74, E79YG03, YG63, YG67; Birdhouses: BV0000, BV01, BV04, BV08, Y21, E33, E35, E37, E39, R01, R02, R05, Y26, W1, W3, W5, W7
  • Paper: Copic X-Press It Blending Card
  • Elements: White card (PTI), Green linen card (Recollections), Dark Chocolate twill ribbon (PTI), Oval and Scalloped oval punch (Stampin’ Up)

FTHS Ninja Pink teaser

Today, October 5th, is officially World Card Making Day! This holiday is an opportunity to celebrate the creativity of handmade cards and the personal connection that they create between friends and family. It’s a day to connect with fellow card makers both near and far, to applaud the creativity that powers the craft, and to provide an opportunity for card makers to connect and find resources that will empower, inspire, and encourage them in their card making. It’s also a time to get a jump-start on the holiday card-making season!

At Designed To Color, we’ve decided to celebrate this special day with an awesome Blog Hop!! Our Design Team and special guests have made some amazing cards! Several of us will also be sharing some card-making tips along the way. Please leave a comment on each designer’s blog and then a comment at Designed To Color to let us know you have completed the hop. We will pick 1 random winner for a prize package consisting of goodies from various sponsors including:

Crafter’s Companion
Crafter's Companion
Yumi and Fumi Handmade
Yumi & Fumi Handmade
The Stamp Doctor (TSD)

…..just to name a few!

You have until Monday, October 7th, at 11:59pm MST to leave a comment on each blog. We will announce the winner on Wednesday, October 9th. GOOD LUCK!

You should have arrived here from LISA‘s blog. If you didn’t, start at the Designed To Color site so you don’t miss any of the fun!

For today’s fun Blog Hop, I created a CAS card using a Cute Birdbrain Ninja digi – I colored it up in pinks and am also going to play along with a Hope You Can Cling To Day 4 Challenge [HYCCT1304 Let’s Punch Out Breast Cancer – Use Punches or Dies]

My Tip: If you are like me and have a mental block against true white space, but like the look of CAS when others do it, you can add doodle borders, or emboss your background to add texture thus giving the illusion of patterned paper…

FTHS Ninja Pink
Supplies:
  • Medium: Copics
  • Colors: Bird: Y15, Y17, Y19; B02, B04, YR04, YR07; Ninja Gi: R81, R83, C0, Sword: C0, C1, C3, C5, C7; Grass and Flower: YG01, RV25, YG03, YG63, YG67

sweet n sassy stamps

How is it already a new month and time for the Glitter Crew to host a new challenge at Designed to Color? Time seems to be on fast forward…How do we make it stop and play at normal speed? Anyone??

This month’s Glitter Crew challenge is to use DIES…

Our sponsor for this challenge is Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps and for my card, I chose a stamp set that has a coordinating die set – “Born This Day”. It is an absolutely gorgeous set with an incredible assortment of sentiments. This set was so powerful on its own, I decided to go outside of my norm and create a CAS card that has plenty of actual white space.

Supplies for this card:

  • Image: Unto this day – clear stamp by Sweet n Sassy
  • Medium: Copics
  • Colors: Manger: E33, E35m E37, E39; Straw: Y15, Y17, Y19; Skin E11, E21, E00; Blanket: B00, B000; Bird: B00, B02, B04; Sheep: C0, C05, C07

532105_10151651458915963_37430552_nIt is time for the Glitter Crew to bring on the new challenge at Designed to Color and this time we have the theme “ANYTHING GOES”… boy is that a broad range of choices! I am never quite sure where to go with those.

Our sponsor for this challenge is SP&Company and for my card, I chose a cute clear stamp called “Hedgie Reading Books“. Is he not precious??!!

The clear set comes with 3 sentiments and a label to stamp the inside of your books. Since it is going to be for my “favorite bookworm”, I thought this image would be great for a pocket card to put a gift card inside, to the bookstore of course.

Multi-tasking…

26 Monday Aug 2013

LMMS Monster gum tease

Definition of Multitasking: walking and chewing gum at the same time? Haha! Just kidding, but when I first saw this image from Little Miss Muffet stamps, first I thought “This is the cutest monster ever. I need them all!!” Then I thought “Awe, he is walking and chewing gum haha!” Only God knows how my brain works… So I just had to have this image immediately and right away (along with two of his friends) and yet he has been in the computer just waiting. Do you ever do that? GOT to have it now, but then wait so long to use it, you almost forget you have it. Hmmm.

LMMS Monster gum

Well, the challenge at Little Miss Muffet right now is TO USE A MONSTER. When I saw it, I knew it was time to pull the little guys out. This is the only one to be colored so far, but now they are all printed, and that is one step closer than they were…right?? I decided on this little guy because I wanted to try a new technique from fellow Designed to Color Teamie Alaine – she used it to color sheer hose over legs, I used it for bubble over monster. It turned out cute I think! For this card I used:

  • Image: Monster Bubbles by Little Miss Muffet Stamps
  • Ink: Copics (skin:E00, E02, E04, E21; hair: Y11, Y15, Y19, YG03, YG63, YG67; shadows N0, BV01; Gum: V01, V000,RV52)
  • Paper – White Card stock (base) and Dark Chocolate cardstock (for mounting) both from Papertrey Ink, DP from Crate Paper(not sure of the pack name), and DWWV(Garden Party), and Echo Park (Life is Good Collection)
  • I used Spellbinder rectangles and circles as well.

I am going to enter this card into the following challenges:

  • Little Miss Muffet – Challenge 67… Monster Ball
  • The Cutie Pie Challenge – #51 Anything Goes (Must be cute…duh!! look at him :~)
  • Pile it on Challenge: #34 Use Designer Paper

That’s all for now! Thanks for stopping by – Have a great week!

Lyn

P.S. and by the way:

This card was spotlighted at The Little Miss Muffet Challenge!

Feed Me!!!

17 Wednesday Jul 2013

It’s Wednesday, Let’s Hoedown ~ It’s Wednesday, Let’s Hoedown…

This week’s Hambo Hoedown Challenge is brought to you by Venus Flytrap, which was free to those who participated last week but available HERE if you still want to get it… it is a really fun, easy to color image with 3 great sentiments.

Is it just me, or are you thinking about “Little Shop of Horrors” about now… FEED ME SEYMORE!!

images

Whoa! Sorry for getting side tracked…

Our Challenge this week is a SKETCH created by design team member Deborah Anton – It is a great sketch on a long card (I used a 8.5″ X 8.5″ piece of cardstock folded in half for a 4.25″X 8.5″ card base.)

Long sketch

I colored my little guy up with Copics (YG03, YG63, YG7, R02, R05, R08) Then did a fun doodle border and the “Stipple Shadow” technique from a DTC Sunday Showcase.

Hambo FlytrapFor my card background, I used some of my new Papertrey Ink “It’s Official Patterned Paper” and coordinating cardstocks – Simply Chartreuse, and Dark Chocolate. I originally thought about using the sentiment involving “My Plant ate it…” and decided to replace the sketch’s lower left-hand fold with a bite taken out of the papers. I changed sentiments but thought it still worked so I kept it. (I used my SU scallop punch for that.) I used my spellbinders circles for my sentiment.

Since the sketch calls for Washi, and I only had one that would “kind of” work, I just decided to use my pattern paper pack and my coordinating cardstocks (which I ran through embossing folders – background lines which I tilted and mustache both by Darice.) I tore the strips to look like Washi. What do you think??

A little twine and Voila! FUN! FUN! FUN! Challenge this week!

I am going to enter this card into the following challenges:

  • Created With Love – CWLC 50 Anything Goes
  • Cuttlebug Mania- Fun in the Sun (SUMMER MEANS – bright fun colors like the ones in my card and since I am in the South (Georgia) unfortunately it can mean flies :))
  • Repeat Impressions – DCC717 ~ Humor Me…

DTC Recipe Challenge

01 Monday Jul 2013

Posted by Lyn T in Delightful Inspiration, Designed to Color, Sketch

Woo Hoo!! It is the first of the month and time for another Team Glitter Challenge at Designed to Color. Our challenge is sponsored by Simply Betty Stamps and is a Recipe Challenge. The most important ingredient in this recipe… HAVE FUN!!

DTC Recipe July

I chose a fun image from Simply Betty’s 50’s Emo Collection called Hula Hoop Rio. I used a Delightful Inspiration sketch for my card inspiration (It had 3 DPs but my recipe only called for 2 so I tweaked it…)

Simply Betty Hula

My image reminded me of a character from Happy Days (one of my Favorite TV shows as a kid), so I used “Oh Happy Days” for my sentiment.

Medium: Copic Markers

  • Skin: E00, E11, E21
  • Hair: Y13, Y15, Y17, Y19
  • Clothing: Y21, Y26,  R24, R27, R29, E70, E74, E79
  • Other:  Hula Hoop – B00, B02, Eyes – YG63, B000, B00, B02

Recipe Elements:

  • 1 Colored Image – Hula Hoop Rio
  • 2 Patterned Papers – They are from my scrap drawer and were from DCWV and Stampin’ Up
  • Stripes – found in the yellow DP
  • A dash of red and blue – the backing papers and the blue eye shadows
  • A smidge of something sparkly – clear glitter glue over the eye shadow (which I realized after I did it – that’s what you get for coloring too late at night – are the whites of her eyes not her eye lids…Oh well, just play along OK?

Come on over to DTC and join in the challenge and remember to participate, you must HAVE FUN!!

I am going to enter this card into the following challenges:

  • Created With Love – CWLC 48 For the Girls
  • Hobby Cutz – Challenge 9 Anything with ‘H’ as in Hula Hoop
  • Simon Says Stamp- Simon Says,,,, Anything Goes

Thanks for stopping by!

Sunshine Mail Smiles With a DTC Sunday Showcase

02 Sunday Jun 2013

Posted by Lyn T in Designed to Color, Sunshine Mail, Techniques, Tutorial

OK, I am a day late posting my Sunshine Mail Foundation Challenge Project but I have a great reason! I had to do my first Sunday Showcase at Designed to Color and I thought the showcase would be perfect with my Sunshine Mail card.

Just Floating Girl Sunshine JuneThe Sunshine Mail Challenge theme is “SMILES” – something that makes us smile!! Our sponsor this month is Just Some Lines. Her stuff is a sure thing to garner a smile!!

My Showcase today is using alcohol inks to create a fun background for your projects. You can use your Copic refills for this technique and coordinate it with your colored image (if you do one), or you can use other alcohol inks such as Adirondack or a homemade version (the recipe is in the tutorial). It is impossible to mess up and it’s lots of fun to see how the background turns out (never the same way twice) and it truly adds something to your project!

You can see the tutorial here – sorry it is a little shaky but this was my first try at doing this – practice makes perfect right? I will note the use for the hand sanitizer – it adds some blending and when it hits the wet ink, it resists it leaving lighter shades in the shape of your “tool”.

I used a cute little image from Just Some Lines called “Just Floating Girl”, added a rubber stamp Sun [3420] from Hambo Stamps and a sentiment from Stampin’Up – “Smile” (ah ha the theme!!) Finally, I added some tie-dyed ribbon and it looks like a fun summertime, tie-dyed party! Woo hoo!!

Now I am off to mail my card into Sunshine Mail Foundation – that is the only way to qualify to win the challenge and a prize from Just Some Lines!

Sunshine Mail sends happy mail, but not necessarily holiday mail so no holiday specific cards. It is such a wonderful organization! AND if you want to get involved other ways, just go to Sunshine Mail Foundation and learn more! Come on!! Join the fun!!

Thanks for stopping by!

Lyn

PS – YAY and Woo hoo!! I won this challenge at Just Some Lines!JSL-Sat-ChWinner
