Hambo Magnet board beast3This week’s Hambo Hoedown is to USE LEFTOVERS from another project.

That is awesome in itself because, much like what happens to leftovers in my refrigerator, my project leftovers sit in a drawer and are often never seen again… What makes this challenge doubly great is the digi image offered this week, free to those that played last week – it is a refrigerator with magnets  HAHA! Awesome right?

You will have to go over to the Hoedown to see inspiration with “Refrigerator”; however, expect to see it here very soon. Today I wanted to use my rubber stamps to do the challenge. Not only because I had leftover papers, but I had a leftover image…

Do you ever stamp and color multiples of the same image before you decide which one to use? Well… I stamped “Beast” twice for the New Year’s Colors challenge. At the time, I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do so I pulled out the Copics and tried a couple of things – one that used the greens and pinks more heavily and one that used the yellows and oranges more heavily. Ultimately, I decided to go with the greens and pinks and left the other to the side with no specific plans…

This is the card my scraps came from…

Enter this week’s challenge…When I saw “use leftovers,” I started looking through my scrap box. I found a piece of DP that started out as a 12″X12″ and after being used for a card (maybe 2), I still had a piece 8″X12″ left. With a scrap that size, I remembered a project that was waiting to be done – a magnetic board. It calls for a piece of flashing and I actually had a piece that was 8″X12″ – fate right? (Note: the flashing needs to be galvanized aluminum or magnets won’t stick. If in doubt, take a magnet into Home Depot/Lowes/etc to test it out.)

I glued the scrap DP to the front side of the flashing then gued another (coordinating) piece to the back side. Another scrap (same as the back piece was cut 4″X8″, scored in half length wise, corners rounded, and adhered over the top. My crop-a-diles came out of hiding – one to round the bottom corners of the board and one to punch holes in the top. A piece of ribbon was tied through the holes to use as a hanger. [Note: if the flashing has rough edges, just run a nile file or some sand paper over it to smooth it out a bit before gluing DP.]

Now the board was cute but plain. BUT I had my leftover “beast”  – the yellow and orange mounted on a piece of scrap orange paper was a pefect match for the colors in my board. It created a C-U-T-E decorative piece for the bottom corner of the board.

Hambo Magnet board beast2The reason I wanted to do this project was that my nieces and nephews often send me art projects; but the refrigerator is full of their photos. I thought a place to hang the art in the guest room – A.K.A – “their room”, would be perfect. Soooo to make the magnet and tie this project together, I used another Hambo stamp – a sentiment that says “I made this. Yes, I am pretty awesome.” How could any other sentiment have been better for this purpose??? I punched it out, mounted it on more scrap DP, and glued a magnet to the back. VOILA – I absolutely love it!! AND the best part is that it is almost all from leftovers! Yeah!!
